Most people choose to recover at home rather than at a hospital, and hospital beds and bed rails provide them with this opportunity, as they can sleep comfortably surrounded by their families and their environment.

HOSPITAL BEDS

Hospital beds are specially designed for people in need of health care. These beds have special features both for the comfort and well-being of the patient, as well as for the convenience of health care workers or family members because they are adjustable.

Hospital beds allow the patient or their caregivers to adjust the head and foot sections independently to achieve a semi-seated position or raise the legs or knees. This is an important feature for patients who will be spending a great amount of time in bed.

These types of beds include wheels that enable easy movement of the bed within the room. Sometimes, it may be necessary to move the bed a few inches to a few feet for cleaning or treatment purposes in the patient’s care.  For safety, the wheels can be locked when moving the patient in or out of the bed.

There are accessories that can make beds more comfortable, such as therapeutic support mattresses, bariatric foams, alternating pressure and low air loss mattress systems, alternating pressure pad and pump, and lateral rotation mattress with on-demand low air loss.

BED RAILS

Bed rails have many uses: they are very useful to turn and reposition in bed, provide a hold to get in and out of bed, reduce and avoid falling from bed and provide security.

It is recommended to watch over the patients that have mobility to prevent them from rolling over the top of the rail or violently shake and dislodge the rails trying to perform routine activities such as going to the bathroom or retrieving something from a closet. Also, those who have problems with memory, sleeping, incontinence, pain, or uncontrolled body movement.
